Intro to Mindfulness - Class 2

Join Susanna Nicholson on a journey to mindfulness. A five part series designed to bring out a more focused, relaxed and present you. Hop in for one class or come to all five.

Class is by donation!


Every class is structured around the following guidelines:
10 min brief group check-in
10 minute teacher talk- either before or after practice
30 min practice

CLASS ONE Introduction to Mindfulness: What is mindfulness? What are the benefits, and how much meditation do we need to experience them? How does mindfulness work? Learning about how to start: intentions, posture, and beginning to open up to the present moment with the anchor of the breath.

CLASS TWO Mindfulness/Body: How to relax breath and body while maintaining present awareness. Learning to be kind in our attention training. How to deal with interruptions such as pain, sounds, or the desire to move. Walking meditation introduced.

CLASS THREE Mindfulness/Emotions: Learning how to work with pleasant and unpleasant emotions, noting and working with emotions in the body.

CLASS FOUR Mindfulness/Thoughts. How to deal with the habit of thinking during our mindfulness practice. Labeling thoughts. Making peace with our “top ten” recurring thoughts.

CLASS FIVE Mindfulness on the Move: How do we recover our focus, ease, and comfort in everyday difficult situations? The difference between formal and informal practice, with
examples from daily life.
